Dear Hutch,

While I’m not sure about the context of your comments in regard to the Christmas blog, I’ll do my best to respond. Ezek. 38:8 states that the latter-day land of “Israel” (not “Judah”) which is attacked by the Gog-Magog alliance is one which is “brought back from the sword” (KJV) or “restored from war” (RSV). The USA grew into its current boundaries via a process of many wars against the British, the French, the Mexicans and numerous Native American peoples. However, our land has been “restored” or “brought back” from warfare into a state of prolonged peace within out borders from any foreign enemy. That would fit this description. The Israeli nation in the Promised Land has had many wars, conflicts and terrorist intifadas on its territory since its founding in 1948 so that language doesn’t fit them well.. The meaning of that phrase in verse 8 is obscure though. The clear parts of this prophecy point directly to the USA; however, and you can see that evidence in my article “The USA in Bible prophecy” available at the home page of my website, www.stevenmcollins.com.

The phrase in verse 16: I’ll bring you “against my land” refers to the latter-day regions where God says “my people of Israel” live in the latter days (same verse). Notice it does not refer to where “my people Judah” live. If it had that language, it would refer to the Israeli land where Judah now lives (see Zeph. 2, Zech. 12 and Zech. 14 for confirmation that God uses “Judah” when he prophesies about Jews/Israelis in the latter days). When God uses the term “Israel,” he means the descendants of the ten tribes of Israel in the modern world.
