O Sweet Jesus… I think I just lost a filling!

O Sweet Jesus is the actual name of a Christmas Candy packet that you can put in your stockings! There are six flavors to choose from; Gifts of the Magi, Loaves and Fishes, Mary’s Miracles, Forbidden Fruit, Peter’s Prayers and Heavenly Reward. Since I can’t imagine eating a candy that tastes like “loaves and fishes” perhaps I might try “forbidden fruit.” Here’s the description of it… “All of Eden’s glories in one! Chewy gooey apple, berries, and more. Snake not included.”

Let’s chew on this (pardon the pun) on a couple levels….First, “O Sweet Jesus???!?” what do you think - is this all in poor taste? (Again pardon the pun… Ha! I’m on a roll!) Is it really okay to commercialize Christ into a candy?

Second, let’s at least help these folks come up with some more delicious sounding Christmas Story candy flavor names. (Didn’t Joseph put Mary on a donkey? Maybe they could package tootsie rolls called “donkey’s delights.”)

I think the best Christmas candy is the candy cane. It’s so difficult to find the original peppermint candy canes in stores. I think it’s because so many people are trying to remove any reference to Christ from Christmas. We cannot have CHRISTmas without Christ!

The candy cane is red and white striped. Red represents the blood of Christ and white represents the cleansing or forgiveness of our sins. Also, the stripes represent the lashes that Jesus suffered when He was going to be crucified. By His stripes, we are healed! The candy cane looks like a shepherd’s staff. The shepherds were visited by an angel when they were guarding their flocks at the time Jesus was born. The angel came with a Heavenly host to tell the shepherds about Jesus’ birth. An upside down candy cane looks like a “J” which stands for Jesus.

    God bless everyone this Christmas!
