“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” John 1:14 (The Message)
Here’s a retro Christmas classic if there ever was one… Jimmy Boyd singing “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (1952).
Christmas is about closeness. It’s a time for families to come together. People come home, stay home. Hostilities cease, at least for a season. And, just as Jimmy Boyd sings about, there might even be a little more closeness between mommy and “Santa Claus.”
However, ultimately, Christmas is about God coming near. The “distance” (caused by sin) between God and humanity was unacceptable to Him and Christmas is about God taking the initiative to bridge that gap. In Jesus, God draws close.
Are you feeling distant from him right this moment? Ask Jesus to come close to you. Advent means “arrival” and is the time of year we focus on the coming of Jesus into the world. But, his advent in your life can be very personal. Ask him to come and fill you with his presence and fill your home with his life and light.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus come. I want to know you more intimately and be with you. Reveal yourself to me as Bridegroom and Lover of my Soul. How close are you willing to come to me O God? Don’t ever let me go.
