For the next few nights, we are devoting our last post of the day to a five part mini-series put together by the History Channel on the History of Christmas. Each segment is 9-10 minutes long so launch it when you have a little extra time. Please use the comment link to mull all this over with many others. You’ll see that we aren’t the first culture to corrupt Christmas or to fight to see it remain pure and true to the reason for the season.
segement didn’t come through
Didn’t come through for us, either…….
Hmm. Works here. We’ll check into it.
No. No segment working for me!
Okay. We rebuilt the post with a new embedded code for the video. Let us know if it helped.
It’s working for us now…..Thanks for showing this. Very informative.
Yes, informative. I notice there were those early in our USA history who chose not to celebrate Christmas because of the “pagan origins”. Our history seems to be punctuated by such extremes. Does that make it right or wrong? I think history also begs the question: Why would I not celebrate Christmas? If Jesus is the focus of this day, great. If not, then I do not understand the Christian meaning. I am grateful for the reminder of Jesus’ humanity. For many years I ignored the birth of Jesus and was critical of those who celebrated December 25. Today, as a Christian, I look forward to the celebration with my attention focused on Jesus, and the greatest gift given through His birth, death, and resurrection! Praise God! for this opportunity to reflect the “Giver of every good and perfect present”.
As you say “we aren’t the first culture to corrupt Christmas or to fight to see it remain pure and true to the reason for the season. ” If you listen closely to the narrative at the beginning of this segment, you can see the History Channel is still in the process of this corrupting. It might seem insignificant but they say “after a rude refusal by a local inkeeper, Mary and Joseph bedded down in a barn ….and the next day Mary gave birth” and “those are the biblical origins of Christmas” I don’t know about your bible , but that is not what mine says …so ….I will continue the fight and “fight to see the “scripture account” remain pure and true too.
