Keep praying for New Life Church…. and here’s how to give…

We continue to pray and hurt with our friends at New Life Church in Colorado Springs following the shooting Sunday.  It hit even closer to home for us when my son Caleb heard the names of the two girls that were killed – Stephanie and Rachael Works.  He knew them from spending two summers there in New Life’s FSI internship program – he showed me recent emails from them.  Ugh.  We pray also for the family of the young man responsible for this – he was one of our own.

A fund has been set up to help David Works and his family. He and his wife had 4 daughters, devout Christians and where getting in their van when the shooter arrived in the parking lot and started shooting. He aimed at him hitting him in the shoulder, missed his wife Marie then shot one of his 18 year old twin daughters, then shot another 16 year old daughter. The twin died immediately. The 16 year old died that night at the hospital. His 11 year old daughter grabbed a towel out of the van and pressed it on the 16 year old where she was bleeding and held it until medics came. She is a hero. She knew her daddy was shot, a sister dead and she continued to help her sister. When her daddy woke up Sunday night from surgery, he knew the 18 year old was dead and he asked about his 16 year old. He said one thing, “My daughters are Christians.”

Send any donations to: New Life Church, C/O Brian Newberg (The Works Family), 11025 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO. 80921

I heard on the news today that the security guard, who shot the gunman, is a Sioux Falls native. She had worked as a police officer in the Twin Cities. She was fasting for three days, so she was weak when the shooting happened, but God gave her strength. The morning of the shooting, she said she was praying, told God that if anything was going to happen, protect the Pastor and help the others know what to do. God did intervene.

I continue to pray for the families of the victims and those, who are traumatized by this event.
