This song by Go Fish is a favorite and it’s catchy little toon will even have the adults humming along.
What do you think… is Xmas merely an abbreviation for Christmas? Or, is Christ really getting snubbed by a society that refuses to call on His name? Comments please?
I found the following on Xmas but I do think that society tries to avoid using the name of Jesus, except when cursing.
The word “Christmas” is a contraction of two words “Christ’s mass” and is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038. In early Greek versions of the New Testament, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ (Χριστός). Since the mid-16th century Χ, or the similar Roman letter X, was used as an abbreviation for Christ. Thus, Xmas is an abbreviation for Christmas.

I didn’t go into the extensive search Carter did, but I do agree people are using it, especially in the retail ads, to cross out ‘uncomfortable’ name Christ out of Christmas.
