You are His “reason for the season”

The answer to today’s earlier question - What US city is this? - is St. Louis, MO.

Santa always had tabs on whether I was naughty or nice. I can remember my mom saying, “Careful, Santa’s watching.” And I also remember the Sunday School song that went, “Oh be careful little hands what you do. For the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful little hands what you do.” God and Santa seemed to have a lot in common in my mind. But just like Santa, God always knows where we are and goes out of his way to meet us.

The Bible tells us that Jesus came to “seek and save the lost”.  Jesus told a story in Matthew 18 about a shepherd with 100 sheep, but one was missing.

“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.

Sure doesn’t seem like financial wisdom to leave 99 just to find one. But look what Jesus said…”he is happier about that one sheep than the 99 that did not wander off.” If you are wandering around, know that God is happier to “find” you than he is those who are already safe in the fold.

GOD IS NOT LIKE SANTA! He is not checking the naughty/nice list. Nothing could keep him from finding you if you are feeling lost and afraid today. You are His “reason for the season”.
