Daily Devo #4 - Cheer up, Eeyore!

But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. Psalm 3:3

My wife sometimes calls me Eeyore because I get down easy. Perhaps you can relate, many can, especially during the holiday season. Psychologists report at the “holiday blues” effect many this time of year.

Yet, the Bible says God is the “lifter of my head.” I don’t know what you typically turn to when you get down, but this year go to Him and ask him to be the lifter of your head. In light of the resurrection, someone once said “Christians are never down. They are either up or getting back up.” God will help you get back “up.”

My dad used to sign off every email to me with these two words, “CHIN UP.” When I read this verse in Psalms 3:3, I hear my Heavenly Father saying the same thing. The angels came that first Christmas with “glad tidings” for the world. Jesus later gave us more reason to be encouraged… “In this world ye shall have tribulations, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

For those of you who have the “gift of encouragement,” use it today and seek out somebody to encourage. For those needing encouragement, here’s how to pray…

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, be the lifter of my head this day. Restore to me the joy of my salvation. In Jesus’ name.

    Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
