Santa can’t win! Many many Christians don’t like him and tell their children he’s a fake and a fraud. The church lady on Saturday Night Live swapped a couple letters in his name suggesting the real guy under the beard is SATAN. Some kids are afraid of him. Now, in Australia, he’s told to stifle his joy because his laugh (ho, ho, ho) might be offensive to women. Rather than submit to mandated sensitivity training, some Santas are calling it quits.
If the real St. Nick (and there was one you know) were able to speak up for himself, what do you think he would tell us about Christmas and the Reason for the Season? Do you think he’d be aghast that society bumped Jesus from center stage and made him the hero of the day?
Maybe instead of silencing him, shunning him, or centering our season soley on him, we ought to dust off our history books and tell our kids who he really was - how he loved God, worshipped the Lord Jesus everyday and devoted his life to blessing people (women especially).
