The 2007 City Christmas Blog starts tomorrow and we still don’t have a name for the penguin!!
In case you are wondering why we didn’t pick a more traditional Christmas symbol for our Christmas Blog mascot, it’s because we like penguins. And this one caught our attention because it looks like its worshipping - something we all should be doing this Christmas Season. Did you know they are the most social birds on the planet? Their colonies can be as large as 250,000 breeding pairs. Now, we aren’t going to be advocating “breeding” of any kind on our Christmas blog. But, this whole effort is about calling our city together.
But we can’t do any of this without a name! Suggestions welcome… use the comment link below.
Good names: Ink, Tux, Izzy, Nick (as in Saint)
How about Peng Nguyen?
My three-year old and I would like to submit the name: Pickles
I’m gonna take a page out of Happy feet and go with Ramon, Memphis, or Norma Jean (if it’s a girl). I like Ramon though…kinda rolls off the tongue….Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrramon

how about Philemon or C.John III
He should be “Peace” the Penquin as in “Glory to God in the Highest and Peace, Goodwill to men.”
I’d like to suggest the name Thaddeus . . . for one thing . . . he “looks” like a Thaddeus
The meanings I found for Thaddeus are “heart, praise, generous and kind” . . . sounds like Christmas to me!
Biblically, Thaddeus is thought to be another name of St. Jude (whose name means “giver of joy”). Together the names mean “sweetness or gentleness of character”.
St. Jude Thaddeus, the Patron Saint of the Impossible . . . “Through God all things are possible.”
(Submission made in honor of Annie Johnson . . . “sweetness, gentleness of character, praise, generous and kind” . . . “Through God all things are possible!)
Shivers the Penguin
Yosef Uriah Levi Elden
Yosef (God Will Add)
Uriah (God is my Light)
Levi (Lion)
Elden (The Old Servent)
Or Yule for short…
How about Brryce, (Brrr and ice)?
How about Dooney?
I would have to say he looks like a Rocky, Lancelot(no pun intended Lance) or Jiggy.
Well, I’d like to just second the name Thaddeus,
Just seems to fit if you ask me.
a cute, plump little penguin singin his praise to God Just seems to be screaming…
“Give me a name with some umph to it”… Like
THADDEUS THE GREAT!!!!
THADDEUS THE CHATTIEST!! or
CHATTIEST THADDEUS!!
or maybe
THADDEUS MAXIMUS!???!??????
I love Yosef Uriah Levi Elden (Yule)
That’s fantastic.
Or I could follow in Kari’s footsteps and go with “Coach”, since we seem to be naming our favorite purse brands…hehehehehe
Mocking the Dooney…not nice.
I must say that I’m also going with Y.u.l.e. Was it difficult to come up with all of those? I’m highly impressed!
Hosea can u c
HAHA. All very nice…but I would have to second the Izzy vote!! I love it!
Richard
She looks like “Hope” to me?
I like Earl. It’s different and it’s unique.
Pastor Penguin
What’s all this about boy names? If you want my opinion, I say that penguin’s a chick! (as in girl, not chicken) While I think the name Izzy is cool, going with the girl theory, I have to say Izzabella is more like it! And actually, the name Zabel (girls name pronouced ZAH behl) means My God is a vow in Hebrew.
But most of all, my number one pick is Zeah, which means Life Giving in Greek. I believe God is the giver of life and CATG is a Life Giving church!
I know, I’m stuck on “Z” names, but it’s because they’re SO cool, and penguins are cool too!!
Tigger, because he likes to bounce!
IZZY!
-OR-…JOLLY! HAHA!
Bouncy!
I like Yule or Brryce-very creative guys!
Mordecai, a persian name, the spiritual connotation being “reknowned”…………Or, Moses, of Hebrew origin, meaning “Drawn From The Water”…well, that kinda fits! Penguins, water,……….Or, what about a gal’s name….Millicent, an Old German name, meaning “Strong Spirit”………..One more: Miguel, of Portuguese origin, meaning “Who Is Like God?”
All M’s, but I’m in “The Name Book”, and there are 10,000 names in here! Many that would be great for a penguin! But I like Thaddeus and Yule, too………
Hey… Steve is always telling couples to name their kids “Steven”. (I heard so at saterday church on the first).
My Idea is to name the penguin steve.
When my sister went to Antarctica, she bought a stuffed penguin and gave it to her best friend’s son. He named the penguin “Inky” then put it in their refrigerator because he said, “Penguins like it cold!”
If the penguin is a girl, I suggest Penelope. If it’s a boy, Pedro or Pierre (Pee-air). I like the rolling of the “r”s, so it’s Pedrrrrro or Pierrrrre.
Of course, we have Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, I supposed we could also have Pierre the Orange Beaked Penguin. Ohhhhh. Do penguins really have orange beaks? I thought they were black.
BTW, I like his red and white striped scarf. Red is the blood of Christ and white is purity or salvation. By His stripes, we are healed. By His sacrifice on the cross, we are redeemed and forgiven of our sins.
What better name for a Church At The Gate penguin than Grace.
How about Amazing Grace?
Has a name been chosen for this penguin yet?
He looks like a Thaddeus to me, Giver of JOY, a happy little fellow giving all his praises to God!
